There’s a wonderful travel blog by a woman who calls herself the Young Adventuress. She’s an inspiration — and so is her blog.

But I’m 55, and I work full-time in the tech world. So I claim the title of the Not So Young Adventuress — and I make every trip count.

Wendy in the Arctic

Arctic, July 2022 — that’s our ship behind me, and yes, the man in the background has a gun. Polar bears.

Travel has always been part of who I am. My father was in the Army, and I was born on a base outside Atlanta. From there we lived in Texas, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Arizona, and two cities in Germany before my dad retired back to Texas when I was 14.

Growing up, my mom took my sisters and me exploring whenever she could — and that spirit of curiosity stuck.

Ecuador, 2024

More than 20 years ago, my mom and I started taking big trips together. We try to do at least one every year, and those journeys have taken us around the world — from Antarctica to Africa, across Europe and Asia, and most recently to West Africa and the Canary Islands. She’s 79 now and still just as adventurous as ever, and honestly, those trips are some of my favorite travel experiences.

I don’t have unlimited time to travel, so I make the most of the time I do have — whether that’s long weekend adventures or taking a few weeks off to explore. I like to think of my style as thoughtful travel with a bit of comfort.

Jon and Wendy wedding

Our wedding, Nov 2025

In November 2025, I got married, and my husband brings a new twist to my travels. He’s a big baseball fan, so we’ve set our sights on visiting every MLB stadium in the U.S. That means more domestic travel, weekend trips, and baseball-inspired adventures mixed in with my bigger journeys.

When I’m not on the road, I work in tech and have a deep appreciation for a well-crafted Old Fashioned.

I started this blog when I moved to New Zealand and wanted to share my experiences exploring that incredible country. After New Zealand, I lived in London for a couple of years before returning to the U.S. during COVID. Now I live outside Orlando, Florida — and this has evolved into a broader travel blog covering all the ways I explore the world.

Come walkabout with me.
